PBN Staff WriterNORTH KINGSTOWN – The Quonset Development Corp. this month opened a 2.5-mile bike path, which cost QDC and the R.I. Department of Transportation a combined $1.34 million.
The path hugs the northern perimeter of the Quonset Business Park. It reaches from Post Road at the western edge of the park to the Calf Pasture Point Nature Preserve and the waterfront on the eastern edge.
“We are excited to officially open the Quonset shared-use bike path,” QDC Managing Director Steven J. King said in a statement. “From day one we have endeavored to incorporate public access in to the Business Park and the bike path represents an extraordinary opportunity for all Rhode Islanders to enjoy some of the most beautiful, untouched areas of our state.”
The bike path’s design includes 12 park benches and flower and tree plantings.
“DOT is extremely proud of Rhode Island’s growing network of bike paths which encompasses more than 50 miles of bikeway on six major paths,” DOT Director Michael P. Lewis said in a statement. “The new Quonset bike path is a great addition to the state’s greenways.”
