New Trades Training Facility Opens in Quonset Business Park

The Trades Training Center of Rhode Island (TTCRI) opened today at 112 Dillabur Avenue in the Quonset Business Park. A division of Nationwide Diesel Technologies, TTCRI provides nationally-recognized, certified training in the building and construction trades. Courses include welding, electrical and CDL driver training. Soon plumbing, pipefitting and other courses will be added.
Strategically located, TTCRI also partners with the business community, creating customized programs that create solutions in the problem areas of turnover, growth or the need for on-going training. These programs reduce training costs, increase productivity and relieve companies of the cost burden of in-house programs. “The training programs we offer enable workforce re-entry for the unemployed, the under-employed and returning armed services personnel, says Alan LaBonte, Facility Director.
“There is a tremendous shortage of skilled workers compared to the available positions that exist both now and in the near term. Our trainees will receive nationally recognized certificates of training that enables them to pursue their chosen trade anywhere they choose.” The recent “gray wave” of retiring tradesmen coupled with an increase in federal funded projects, construction and infrastructure repairs has created numerous openings both locally and nationally.
The 20,000 square foot facility houses administrative offices, classrooms and shop training areas with equipment for the hands-on aspect of instruction. Additional space is available for customized training programs.
