The Applied Radar, Inc.-sponsored team of University of Rhode Island students has been selected to present its project at the 2010 Capstone Design Conference in Boulder, Colo. The team was selected for its cylindrical/spherical near-field antenna measurement system. Production of the system incorporated virtually all aspects of design, including developing specifications, mechanical design, electrical and RF design, motion control, data collection and data processing.
The capstone design project is a required part of the engineering curriculum at URI, as well as several other engineering schools nationwide. According to Applied Radar CEO Dr. William Weedon, it is also a way for the company to evaluate and train prospective employees. This is the second year that Applied Radar has sponsored a capstone design team, and several team members have been extended employment offers by Applied Radar.
