Water Supply

The Quonset water system serves the Quonset Business Park® in its entirety and is owned and operated by the Quonset Development Corporation. The Park's water system is separate from the Town of North Kingstown's water system.

The water system is comprised of three gravel-packed groundwater wells, 65 miles of water mains, two spheroid water storage tanks, and emergency interconnects with two other major water suppliers.

The three wells have a total pumping capacity of 4.6 million gallons per day. The two storage tanks have a capacity of one million gallons. On average, the system pumps 0.6 MGD.

The source water aquifer is pure enough that disinfection is not required. However, as a precaution, the water is disinfected with sodium hypochlorite and buffered with potassium hydroxide for pH adjustment to improve water quality.
