North Kingstown Fire Dept. trains at the Port of Davisville

Port

As Rhode Island’s only public port, the Port of Davisville receives cargo from all sorts of maritime vessels, including hundreds of car carrier ships each year. These ships can dock for multiple days at a time and are a near-constant fixture at the port, so it’s important that local EMS personnel are familiar with how they operate.

QDC and Siem Shipping recently hosted the North Kingstown Fire Department and other key port stakeholders for a specialized in-port fire response workshop and tour of the SIEM Aristotle. Attendees established coordination procedures between ship crews and shore-based responders and received a briefing on the ship’s fire systems, safety zones and muster protocols.

These efforts create safer ship environments and ensure that local first responders are well prepared to do their jobs as safely and efficiently as possible.
